ECMO-CENTRAL (ECMO-Core Elements Needed for Trials Regulation And quality of Life) Academic Research Consortium (ARC)

Project start and end date: January 2023-June 2024

Background:
Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is a high-risk and low volume life support with increasing clinical study but heterogenous outcome definitions that limit data assimilation into evidence to guide practice.

Objectives:
ECMO-CENTRAL ARC aimed to develop harmonized definitions of pediatric ECMO adverse events for use in clinical trials and regulatory device evaluation.

Research Topics:
ECMO, Device Evaulation, Clinical Trials

Methods:
Systematic Literature Review, Modified Delphi

Implications:
ECMO-CENTRAL ARC will facilitate child-focused ECMO research and device development that aims to improve the safety of ECMO support for children.
