Staff Spotlight: Jeremy Adler

In 2017 Jeremy Adler, M.D., M.Sc. led an effort to develop a new reliable bowel scoring tool – the simplified endoscopic muscosal assessment for Crohn’s disease (SEMA-CD) – to measure disease activity and guide treatment for children diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. In September 2022, the study team validated the new SEMA-CD scoring tool for both children and adults with Crohn’s Disease. The SEMA-CD score was found to be strongly correlated to the standard score (SES-CD), be easier to use, work across severities of disease (mild to severe), work across different populations (adults, children, male, and female) and be sensitive to change. Provation, the endoscopy software provider, has implemented the SEMA-CD score into their most recent endoscopy software update, which will make easy and accurate scoring of Crohn's disease endoscopic severity widely available to clinicians.
