Dr. Macy’s formal training in Pediatric Emergency Medicine and Pediatric Health Services Research places her in a unique position to study the potential to extend emergency department (ED) care for children beyond the initial stabilization and treatment of acute conditions. Her research currently focuses on two areas: 1) injury prevention through brief ED-based interventions to promote size-appropriate child passenger restraint use and 2) increasing ED efficiency and decreasing hospital resource utilization by applying principles of observation medicine.
